About Lippy Lyrics
Lippy Lyrics produces work by lyricist / performer Anna Pelly: shows range from a full evening’s cabaret entertainment to short, after dinner slots with songs written specially for the event or occasion. Anna Pelly works in conjunction with other artists and performers and in collaboration with other Opera Companies. Lippy Lyrics is available for hire (see Contact and Costs) and also stages public performances from time to time.
Anna Pelly
Anna Pelly read Modern Languages at Oxford University, then, after a year of odd jobbing in various City locations, qualified as a lawyer. She left the City to bring up her two children and to develop her painting career, exhibiting in various exhibition spaces in the UK and working in conjunction with the innovative Banbury based dance troupe Anjali.
Anna started to retrain her voice in the late 1990s. In 2001 she founded Opera Soufflé with Louise Woodgate (see People Involved). Anna wrote five totally original shows for Opera Soufflé which she and Louise developed and performed extensively. (See Opera Soufflé)
In 2006 Anna wrote the script for an abbreviated production of Verdi’s Macbeth for Street Opera which was widely performed in London and around the UK. In 2006 / 07 she wrote a translation / adaptation of Da Ponte’s libretto for Mozart’s Don Giovanni. (See Don Giovanni) Her adaptation updates the story to 1998 and uses modern day spoken English. She is currently working on a new translation of a comic Opera.
In 2005 – 2007 Anna directed various productions for Oxford based Opera company, Opera Anywhere, including a production of her adaptation of Don Giovanni, in 2007.
Since 2005 Anna has produced solo Cabaret slots, with songs written especially for particular events or occasions. She has continued writing and producing shows under the banner of Lippy Lyrics and has developed her own style of “musical monologue” social commentary Cabaret. She is currently working with composer Ben Hall on a new series of satirical contemplations.
Anna will be appearing at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe with director / actress Amy Standish in a new Lippy Lyrics show, The Secret Fantasies of Alice Pobbs, aged 41. (Lippy Lyrics will be appearing between 1-10th August 2008. See What’s On.)

What People have said about us
“Lippy Lyrics provided us with the perfect performance for a cold November evening. Warm, vibrant and absolutely captivating, they kept our guests enthralled throughout. The audience left the venue buzzing and we are still receiving congratulations on our astute choice of performers.”
Elizabeth Anson, Chair St John’s Ambulance Wiltshire
“Anna is very talented. She writes her own lyrics which are clever and amusing. She sings with musicianship and performs with artistry and magic. She is reliable, has plenty of personality and adapts well to any situation”.
Augusta Miller, Ex Director of Sherborne, AGSM, ARCM, Churchill Fellow
“Anna’s ability to concoct a funny and delicious and very apt cabaret is superb. She can spin a musical tale for any occasion using well known tunes from opera or musical comedy – or even hymns - with her own lyrics telling a “This is your life” or gently poking fun at/teasing the guests. It is terrific entertainment tailored for a special party or event. She’s certainly lippy – and pretty and clever and inventive – and very funny too. Whether a whole evening entertainment or after dinner mini cabaret it is huge fun. Anna did a brilliant slot between the dinner and dancing at my daughter’s 21st which enchanted and greatly amused all her friends and family – and complemented the speeches delightfully”.
